The Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) – Moc Bai expressway project, spanning 50 km, has been submitted to the Prime Minister by the HCMC People’s Committee with a total investment of over VND 16.7 trillion. Of this, the cost for land clearance and resettlement accounts for 44%, with over VND 7.4 trillion. HCMC and Tay Ninh, the two localities that the expressway passes through, will arrange the remaining VND 4.5 trillion after receiving a support of VND 2.9 trillion from the Central Government.
The expressway starts from the intersection of provincial road 15 with Ring Road 3, connecting to national highway 22 at Ben Cau district, Tay Ninh province. The project will clear land on a complete scale from the beginning, affecting more than 570 households on a total area of over 435 hectares.
In phase one, the route will be initially constructed with four lanes, and then expanded to 6-8 lanes. HCMC is assigned to lead the construction of this route.
The city government has also proposed to the Prime Minister to adjust a part of the HCMC – Moc Bai expressway route as suggested by the Ministry of Defense, so as not to affect military land areas in Cu Chi district.
It is expected that investment preparation and route deployment will begin this year, basically completed in 2026 and put into operation a year later. Once completed, the expressway will help increase the capacity of international transport routes connecting HCMC with Cambodia, breaking the monopoly of national highway 22 connecting the city with Tay Ninh.
